My research interest lies in the image of ‘citizens’ that art museums face, which is unique to Japanese art museums. This is because, as the saying goes, each country has a different image of its own citizens, and museology in each country should start its discussions from the perspective of its own citizens. The citizens that museums should be addressing are not only those who come to museums, but also those who have never been to a museum. Rather than imitating the idealism of other countries’ museology, I will envision the image of museology in Japan from the real voices of such a wide range of citizens.
