Study abroad

(1) Overseas Training Program I,II

The ultimate image for people that emerge from their education by this faculty are those who have global values with a global perspective, understand and respect the diversity of the world and people, and can work with all kinds of people with a high awareness of issues on the world and local stages. We place emphasis on working collaboratively, contributing proactively, and playing an active role. Our faculty offers both “Overseas Training Program I” and “Overseas Training Program II” as elective subjects, and all students in this faculty are instructed to take “Overseas Training Program I”.

1) Overseas Training Program I

In this program, students who are encouraged to take the course participate in overseas training for about two weeks (including online training) in their first and second years under the collaborative guidance of both the study abroad program coordinator and lecturers from other faculties. Students will improve not only their communication skills in a language(s) spoken where they go but also understand different cultures, and acquire international sensitivities in the countries where they study through this program.

2) Overseas Training Program II

This program is scheduled to be offered to students who have already completed “Overseas Training Program I”. Under the collaborative guidance of both the study abroad program coordinator and lecturers from other faculties, students have acquired knowledge in their first year by studying abroad at a local university (about half a year) and experiencing highly specialized training. Students will further develop their language skills, cross-cultural understanding, and international sensibilities acquired through global subjects and “Overseas Training Program I”. After returning to Japan, students will aim to acquire advanced English proficiency at the CEFR-B2 level by leveraging their academic language skills, cross-cultural understanding, and international sensibilities they gained through this training program, and deepening their studies in specialized subjects.

(2) Study abroad program

For the overseas destinations for “Overseas Training Program I” and “Overseas Training Program II”, we will mainly utilize the study abroad programs and online overseas training programs already in place at Shizuoka University.

(3) Short Term Study Abroad Programs

There is a study abroad program held in Wollongong University in Australia between February and March of 2024 (for 3 weeks during spring break). This is a very meaningful program that not only improves one’s language skills but also allows one to experience and deepen one’s own understanding of other cultures through a variety of activities such as language training, cultural experiences, and sightseeing. For those who are awarded a certificate of completion, there is also a system in which they can receive credits – from “Overseas Training Program I” (specialized subjects of the Faculty of Global Interdisciplinary Science and Innovation) or English overseas training (general education subjects) as their elective subjects – towards their undergraduate degrees.
