My research is to analyze the systems and realities of migration and social issues from a gender perspective, focusing on migrant women in Japan, especially those who work in domestic and nursing care. Since the 1980s, half of all international migrants have been women, and Japan is no exception. My research interests include: what are the differences between Japan and other receiving countries, why are there differences, why are there so many women in the domestic and nursing care sectors, and what are the problems? I am trying to clarify these issues through interviews with migrant women, as well as with the countries of origin of the migrants, various intermediary actors, support groups.
