As of March 2023, I had worked at Shizuoka University for 25 years. For the last 17 of those years, I taught and researched American literature and culture in the Department of Language and Culture, in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. In the last 10 years, I published three full-length novels. In the Faculty of Global Interdisciplinary Science and Innovation, I teach classes that focus on developing students’ communicative ability in English. The first English course students take in our department is Oral Communication I. As homework, students must practice listening and prepare for speaking activities. In class, we practice a lot of practical English conversations in pairs and groups. No need for potential students to worry! Speaking practice is adapted to students’ level! If students are motivated and willing to work hard, they should be able to become good English speakers in our department!
