My research focuses on the relationship between natural disasters, livelihoods, social organization and norms in disaster prone countries such as Japan and South Asian countries, particularly Bangladesh. I am interested in how the resilience and vulnerability of societies and groups to disasters are constructed with economic and social development. Through fieldwork, I also examine the effectiveness of community-based disaster management with gender and diversity perspectives and propose specific policies.
