There is a phenomenon called “fairy ring” in which mushrooms form rings on turfgrass, causing the turfgrass to become dark green in rings. We have discovered its causative compounds, fairy chemicals. We are currently conducting research to prove that fairy compounds may be new plant hormones.
To elucidate the biological significance of natural products and biological phenomena from the viewpoints of natural product chemistry and biochemistry: (i) Exploration of biological function regulators produced by various organisms, (ii) Elucidation of biosynthetic and metabolic pathways of bioactive compounds, (iii) Elucidation of crosstalk of symbiosis and coexistence among organisms, (iv) Elucidation of action mechanisms of plant growth regulators.
